Can we go back more than a century? Let\u2019s take a small step back in time to the island of Djurg\u00e5rden in Sweden. Rapid modernization had already swept away traditional ways of life. The 19th century saw an explosion of national movements in art, literature, and music. Preserving local traditions was a way to forge national (as opposed to regional or ethnic) identities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
